Putting It to Practice

Fearing God is truly important and what we must keep our mind focused on during the day. It has an effect on what we do and what we think about. It is not easy to consistently do so either. I struggle with it probably during every week. There are times when I feel so confident and strong in the Lord and I am able to stand for Him. Yet, there are many times, too, when I feel weak, unwilling to step out a little, avoiding conflict by holding back what I know to be true in Him. There is good news, though! He is still there. He will not leave. If you refocus on Him as most important, He will give you strength. It just goes to show that it is a daily process. We can't just one day decided for the rest of our lives we will fear God and then never think about it again. We must abide in His Word so we may know His paths for us and we must talk with Him through prayer so we may draw near. Then, we may walk accordingly with godly fear.
May you find hope in His presence and live to honor and fear Him.

Why Is It Important?

I grew up in the Christian church and knew a lot of those "Sunday School answers" that made me feel knowledgeable but got me nowhere. Too many times I felt afraid of going to hell and afraid of what would happen to me if I wasn't assured of my faith. However, I mistakenly took that fear to be fear of God. True, we are to fear God who is Holy and mightier than all, but we are also to have a fear that causes us to obey the Lord out of love and respect. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom..." (Psalm 111:10a) It took me awhile to really understand that fear of the Lord would lead to wisdom. I had read it and heard it numerous times, but it didn't hit home until I realized I needed to give my life to Him completely. When I feared the Lord, I was conscious that my actions should be according to His commandments. It is hard to make the right choices if fear of what others with say drives you. I had been to scared that someone was not going to like me, so I lived according to their opinions. However, there is One who is greater than all and He is who I should be living to please.

Well, sorry about all that. What I have been trying to point out is that it is important to have an understanding of the fear of God or this generation will continue to make the wrong decisions. It sometimes seems easier to be swayed by people right here on earth with us than by our Heavenly Father. So, if a difference is to be made in the youth of today, we have to set straight who we live for. That will direct where we place our hearts, minds, and actions. Our choices will begin to follow the desires of the Lord instead of the desires of others.

The Fear of God

This is a subject that will take some time to dig into but is vital to our understanding of God and the depth of our relationship with Him. To be able to understand this myself, I will talk honestly of how I have come to see this fear of God as essential to my daily life. For today I will just list some verses that mention the fear of God. Please read them (and go back in your own Bible for the context) and let your heart and mind dwell in His Word. Examine to see if your heart is where it should be. *I say all I am as a fellow sister in Christ to encourage growth with God. I desire to see the youth of this generation grow to love the Lord with their entire heart and live each day to serve Him.

Deuteronomy 6:2 - "that you may fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged."

Psalm 19:7-10 - "The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb."

Psalm 27:1-3 - "The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh, my enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell. Though an army may encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, in this I will be confident."

Psalm 34:9 - "Oh, fear the LORD, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him."

Psalm 111:10 - "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever."Well, that is all for today, due to time constraints. Yet, I pray that His Word will be a blessing and will motivate us all to put our trust in Him and cast aside the fears of this world.
